Books, Symphony of gods

Updated: Jun 14, 2021

In this jungle of concrete, all of us are bound by four walls. Whether it’s the hospital, where life begins, or the room where we work for our dreams. Honing our skills as time passes in a jiffy, like a train that doesn’t stop. All our memories drifting into nostalgia, a pipe dream. Many people find different escapes to live in the moment like sports, dancing or traveling and so much more.

In the start, reading might feel like a chore, but over time it will become a companion that sings a sweet Ballad of knowledge. I started my reading voyage, early in the academic years, to hone my vocabulary, and it has done me justice. One way to enjoy spending time is by reading books. They will show you the world, and the gravitas of every word will fabricate intricate emotions pulling you into a different dimension.

If you think I am bluffing, why not give it a try, and allow yourself to be pushed out of your comfort zone.

The books I would recommend for beginners:

1. Oscar Wilde short stories

His books are a chest of gold for any armature reader, his simplicity of tone and the flow of the story goes hand in hand like a perfect symphony. The stories are short, to the point,

Oscar Wilde writes books on political unrests. He conveys multiple ironies and grey areas, which he spectacularly uses to his advantage, turning the tide on the reader. In the start, his books are like the quiet before the storm, but once you start going through them, it becomes an overwhelming tsunami coming for the reader. His books are a must-read for beginners.

For new readers, I would recommend the book “fisherman and his soul.” A simple book that conveys how a fisherman falls in love with a mermaid and to enter the oceans, he has to sell his soul.

2. Viktor K. Frankl “Man’s search for meaning”

“The classic tribute to hope from the holocaust” a line that perfectly describes the book. It is a biography of the author during the holocaust. The author avoids graphic details, but in his own language, conveys the desperate conditions they lived in and how he fought for his life. Also, he showed a world where he was made to work as a slave and if you could not work, the person would be sent to a gas chamber with hundred others. In his way from camps like Auschwitz, Dachau for three years. he paints pictures of what it was like to live in the camps in his language, “sinister clouds glowing in the west and the whole sky alive with clouds of ever-changing shapes and colors, from steel blue to blood.” The conflicting colors play with the reader's senses and build an image, and painting a dystopian image of the environment he nourished in

Personally, I prefer reading biography and documentaries. They are an oasis of knowledge, from which I learn to live and feel different situations. I don’t need to walk out of my room to experience what the writer may have. Because our lives can be polar opposites, our views may not meet eye to eye, but the experience that the writer conveys makes me feel like I am in his place. It is unreal, there will be moments when you may start acting, speaking like your favorite character. Moreover, these books also tend to resonate with me. It pulls me into a different realm

This is a psychological book, which makes me think about the authors' life. Moreover, there are powerful quotes addressed, like, “The angels are lost in perpetual contemplation of an infinite glory.” If I were to tell you the meaning, it would dilute your interest in the book. This book has a few hidden messages which aid in developing interest amongst the reader.

3. David Leigh and Luke Harding “WIKILEAKS”

Every coin has two sides and this book is a perfect example. Why is that? You may ask. Whistle-blowers from superpowers and even from the royal family of British came forward to the world. They told the world about their shady business and there were detrimental effects that caused a cascade of reactions. The book talks about the infamous Julian Assange, Bradley Manning, and Edward.

Before reading this book, I would have never doubted any digital devices. They may just have been a block of silicon. A block of silicon than acts on my instruction, social media like YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, and other online privileges. But the greater image is being obscured, by what? These so-called social giants are breaking our social privacy, gathering our data, our images, our noise profile. Then selling it to third parties like ad companies or any bidder that bids the highest. Then, what they do with your information, is no one’s responsibility. It's like ,the target is you and, you are dodging an arrow heading your way from the dark. The odds are all against you.

Perhaps now you remember what these men achieved. bringing, topics to the limelight , like how governments manipulate data, spy on civilians to blackmail, personal data capturing, and more but bringing this was just the tip of the iceberg, the repercussions were so great that the defamation of the royal family, governments was one event. This led down to a cascade of riots and caused a revolution in North Africa.

It is a book I would recommend reading for personal information. What not to do when online, what to avoid getting into. Too many grey areas, but never let your guard down.

Books are a cradle of emotions and knowledge, they connect with me. Distracting me from over-thinking, helping me brainstorm in a better manner. And overall helped me build my character, discipline and never have I doubted this decision. I will remember the first time I picked a book. Thinking this would help me kill time, but now there are times when I feel intoxicated by this habit. it's one hobby I will encourage my friends and my future generation to hold onto.

Just don't forget about time, the ball's in your court.
