A breather From the Bustling

Updated: Jun 15, 2021

Located far away from the City’s Centre, the Bar Al Jissah Resort is situated in a cove near the shores of the Gulf of Oman. A luxurious retreat from your everyday bustling life. When my family first planned for this trip, I was beyond ecstatic for it to happen, busy with my everyday college life and the anxiety with which I used to awake every morning to new assignments this was a much-needed break, but I digress.

As we were driving up the cliff, we looked out from our windows and were greeted by the pristine view of the sea and mountains that almost looked golden.

Just entering the resort was a different feeling in itself. As the coastline continued over the entire resort, the road leading up to the entrance had palm trees running along on each side.

We arrived at our temporary yet memorable getaway around at half past 1, which means we were famished and were almost ready to devour anything that was in front of us. So as anyone would, we went to a restaurant.

The restaurant was located on the lower level of the establishment. As we were going down the flight of stairs, a huge Palladian like window overlooked the resort’s estate, although not a complete view of it, but even through that window it looked mesmerizing enough.

We were gawking at the view, when my parents had called us to come down to the restaurant. The restaurant had an amazing interior, large chain like curtains hanging from the ceiling, abstract paintings and windows with distinctive patterns on them.

My sister ordered a spaghetti Bolognese, my friend ordered a grilled boneless chicken and I ordered the biryani. The food was great even more so because we were hungry!

After completely stuffing ourselves, we decided to go and check the place out. If heaven were a place, I would picture it to be something like this. Palm trees everywhere, bushes having pink bougainvillea's sitting upon them and then a small flight of stairs that lead to the pool. At this point we got too excited and without a minute's hesitation decided to hop into our swim wear and hit the pool.

We first went to the lazy river, now just as the name suggests it was a stream of water that had small currents carrying us through the entire property. As we floated in our tubes, streaks of sunlight fell on our faces through the slits of the trees and the sound of the waves clashing onto the shore could be heard.

Right after we stepped out of the lazy river, we thought of going to the pool but my friend suggested that we go the beach instead. Me and my sister were uncertain about it at first but then we agreed to it. When we went there, we saw a group of people preparing themselves to go for kayaking. It was day break and the sun shone as a glowing orb radiating its light on to the waters and the beach almost having a glimmer effect of that light. We decided to step into the water, our feet's being pricked by the stones at first and then the farther we went it was just clear sand at the bottom. The water felt cooler than what we experienced in the lazy river. We even swallowed the salty sea water a couple of times.

We saw as the sun sunk into the ocean’s emptiness and as it sunk, I realized how very rarely we take a pause or a breather from our everyday tireless lives to look at the smaller joy’s that are present around us. We are always caught up in a rat race of just competing to get to the top and sometimes it is okay to just sit and enjoy something you love thoroughly. Everything about this trip was striking because sometimes even the smaller things and memories we make are more euphoric as time passes.
